Sledding in NYC

It's the beginning of March, so it's time to get out and enjoy the last few weeks of winter. Don't let your anticipation of Spring prevent you from getting out there one last time with the sleds in the park, or putting on the ice skates again.

Here are some tips for making an outing like this easy:
* If you have to take the subway, bring a lightweight plastic sled.
Old-fashonedy wood and metal sleds are cute and photogenic, but they sure are heavy. Everyone will have more fun if mommy and daddy don't have to lug one around the city all day
* It's never too cold if you're wearing the right clothes
Don't forget the waterproof pants, and bring an extra pair of gloves and dry socks to change into on the way home
* Pack a snack.
Take a backpack and toss in a bottle of water or juice and some crackers. Exercise makes you hungry and hungry makes you cranky.
* Safety First
Pick a hill that's appropriate for your child's age and sledding skills.
* Take a break on your way home and have some hot chocolate.
I've built a map in the side bar to show some of the best sledding hills and some of the best hot chocolate in town. If you know of a good place to sled or a good place for hot chocolate, add them to the map. You can also rate the Places on the map. Leave me a comment!
